Diversity, Inclusion, and Social Justice Fellowship Announcement
Fall 2020/Spring 2021
The Diversity, Inclusion, and Social Justice Committee (DISJ) is pleased to announce that we are accepting applications for the DISJ Fellowship. This competitive fellowship will be awarded to an outstanding graduate student leader who is committed to supporting the design and implementation of the department’s diversity and inclusion efforts. The fellow will work 5 hours a week (20 hours a month) at a rate of $25/hour for 9 months and earn up to $4500.

Fellow Responsibilities
The fellow will be responsible for the following activities for the duration of the fellowship period:
- Develop and implement an independent research, policy, or practice project related to social justice in the department
- Support in the implementation of social justice research within the psychology department
- Conceptualize and implement diversity climate survey in collaboration with the DISJ committee
- Co-lead department-level social justice initiatives
- Serve as the co-chair for DISJ
- Implement activities proposed by Baltimore Racial Justice Action
- Provide input on prospective graduate students and faculty job candidates
- Support DISJ by providing input on faculty hires
- Support with activities related to interviewing prospective graduate students
- Serve as a departmental liaison for graduate students for experiences related to diversity, inclusion, and social justice
- Serve as a Consultant on diversity-related teaching for faculty and students
Fellow Eligibility
In order to be eligible for this opportunity, the fellow must adhere to the following eligibility criteria:
- Entering into their 3rd year or beyond as a UMBC graduate student in the psychology department
- Has demonstrated expertise in diversity, inclusion, and social justice such as research interests, publications, taught courses or lead workshops related to diversity, inclusion, and social justice
- Can commit to 20 hours a month
- Demonstrates financial need
- Has served at least 1 year on the DISJ committee
- Not receiving other hourly benefits from any additional sources
- In good academic standing the program
- Has approval from their academic advisor
- Has approval from the GPD
- Has approval from Meyerhoff Director*
Fellowship Outcomes
The fellow will complete a portfolio at the end of their fellowship experience that includes:
- Diversity statement
- Brief report on independent project
- DISJ-related product
